Charles Colbeck (1846/1847–1903) was a prominent British classical scholar, schoolmaster, and educational author.

Born around 1847 in Leamington, Warwickshire, England. The son of George Royde Colbeck and Catherine Turquand. Educated at Leamington School.

Entered Trinity College, where he distinguished himself in classical studies, achieving the rank of 5th Classic in the Classical Tripos and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1869. Fellowship: Following his undergraduate success, he was elected a Fellow of Trinity College.

He transitioned to a career in education, serving as an assistant master at Harrow School, where he taught for decades and became a well-known figure in modern language teaching and school administration. He also edited notable educational texts, including The Public Schools Historical Atlas.

During his time at Cambridge, Colbeck was inducted into the elite intellectual secret society known as the Cambridge Apostles. Archival records and correspondence preserved in university collections document his interactions with fellow Apostles and prominent contemporaries, such as Sir Frederick Pollock, 3rd Baronet.

Within the historical networks of the Cambridge Apostles and Victorian public schoolmasters, intellectual and homosocial circles frequently intersected with same-sex romantic or emotional dynamics characteristic of elite academic groups of the era. Archival linkages between members of these networks form part of the broader documentation tracking nineteenth-century homosocial and homoerotic cultures within Cambridge and elite public schools.
